My car has NO OEM VIN # !

There are several places that the factory VIN was located. If the car hasn't been repainted, look under the doors, inside fenders area (where hood seals), under hood, nose cap, under trunk lid. Look for a sticker with the original VIN in any of these places. If it has been repainted, hopefully they just repainted over these decals. Just carefully clean off the paint to reveal the original VIN.

I don't know if there were any hidden stampings somewhere on the frame, etc... but I'd look for the body tags first. If I had a Mustang I'd send you photos, but I don't.

They're white stickers about 2 inches long by .5 inch wide.

Good luck,

Steve

OK, my "new" 89 5.0 Vert was Stolen sometime in it's past history in New Hampshire.

The State of NH DID retiled it and gave it a "New" NH VIN #. The placed a breakable sticker in the doorjamb with this new VIN #.

My problem now is that my Insurance Company (State Farm) is requesting the OEM VIN # to provide proper coverage.

If it gets ripped off again (God Forbid!), I don't want to settle for a 4 cylinder Stang's value on my 5.0!

So what do I do now to ensure that my 5.0 is properly covered ??

Is the VIN in the window/dash removed? There is also one on the drivers side inner fender under the fender by the battery. It is a tab that is part of the inner fender stamping. Ford has put them here for decades. (Same as the original Mustangs etc.) Pain in the ass to get too but it's there. StuK

Give them the new VIN, have them run it and get the history on the car...............

Shonuf. It's a goner! So are all the little barcoded sticky ones. The car has been repainted as well. Can't find Hide nor Hare of ANY VIN#s!

Do I need to take the DS fender off to get to it ???

I did already when I called them to add it to my policy.

The lady just kinda went...."Huh ?? No VIN # ??" She took the VIN# from the New Hampshire sticker anyways.

A couple days later, I get a form in the Mail from State Farm requesting the OEM VIN#!

Guess I need to take the car over to my Agent's office and show them in person....

I just discovered a Metal plate with #s on it on the radiator core support.

There's not a complete VIN # on it, but could there be a partial VIN # ??

What do the #s on this metal tag correspond to ??

That plate usually has all trim and paint code etc. info on it for reference as the car goes through the plant. I forgot about it but as you say it has only a partial code on it and often these get removed and are lost with time. Might not be considered a "legal" VIN identifier ether. StuK

There are only two parts of the VIN that are also exactly the same on the Body Tag and that would be the Consecutive Unit Number (last six characters of the VIN) and the Engine code (eighth character of the VIN). On the Body Tag, both the Consecutive Unit Number and the Engine code are stamped on the second line.
