Kate, How did you deal with your carpeting when you had your subframes welded in? I'm finding alot of people eager to do the job but very few have a clue whats involved. Gears are waiting for the subframes.

Dave, I'm not Kate (?!?) but FWIW they just welded in my subs w/o having to do anything to the carpet or interior. Don't know if there's any difference, but mine's a Fox.
Only thing to watch for is to make sure the car's sitting on its wheels with the suspension fully loaded when they weld the subs in.

The place I think I'm gonna take it to is very detail oriented(bodyshop),and very careful hence the mention of pulling up the carpet. They also knew about having the car's suspension supporting the vehical weight. Every one else just wanted to just slap em in there.
The subframe connectors are welded to the main frame of the body, right? If so, I just can't see the floor pans getting hot enough to melt/burn the carpet backing and/or insulation. Of course, if you pull all that out, then I know it won't.
I'd leave the carpet in.

Exactly. If the welder's any good, there won't be nearly enough time for the floorboards to get hot enough to start a fire (or melt things) in the interior.

I've had 3 sets done now and NEVER had a problem with the carpet. Find a competent welder. As Joe said, do NOT have these done with the suspension unloaded.

We didn't do a thing.... just left it there. Doug used a mig welder, limited heat problems that way.

I'd agree if it's hot enough to melt the carpeting it's probably weakening the metal.
