Power steering...

Changed the power steering pump yesterday on my "90" 302 and it seems like I can't get the air out of the system. Jacked it up and turned in back and forth many time...went down a little but is still hard to turn. Easy way to bleed or what????????

i had the same problem. in the 83 taurus/sabel shop manual they say about pulling a vacuum on the power steering pump when you have the front jacked up and turn from left to right a few times... i have a vacuum pump. MityVac.. from auto zone for about $25.. and i took the old cap off the old power steering pump and drilled a hole into it and inserted the metal(brass) part of an old tubless tire valve into the hole and then sealed it up(including the vent hole in the P/S pump cap.. and will put the cap on with the Mityvac pump to pull a vacuum on the p/s pump when i try to get the air out..... this might help,.. i just finished doing the new home made vacuum attachment... did not use it yes.....

This method works quite well.... used it many times (Ford even has a special tool - bring your checkbook)....... You can tell its working when the pump gets REAL noisy. You may have to repeat the performance two or three times.
