my 96GT vert consistantly chugs a gallon every 15.4 conservative miles throughout the city. It sucks.....literally.

I can get it up to 25 on long trip though.

wow, I must be driving very conservatively. I get 19 to 20 mpg out of my 03 cobra. Then again, I leave early to go to work, and go home early when I can so I do not hit much traffic. On top of that it's mostly freeway, or a long road with no lights.

If I do more city driving it's a whole different story for sure. (did not even measure it)

First step would be to find out exactly what it is. Or at least a rough guess. ;-)

My '97 Cobra gets, well, maybe around 18-22mpg for daily driving duties, and in the upper 20's for highway-only trips. It's a hard top with around 42k miles on it, factory tune.

It will be tuned up before it gets out of the garage for the summer though. It seemed to be lacking in some power, and had an occasional miss that I'd like to head off. I run the car hard and drag race it on the occasion, so I'd like it to be running in top condition. I don't know that your car absolutely requires a tune-up at this point, but if the fuel filter and other miscellaneous filters are still from '97, it's about time to have those done. I'm dreading the 60k mile oxygen sensor swap... 4 of those bad boys... ack... might be cheaper to get two and an aftermarket H-pipe w/ O2 eliminators... (just kidding, I'm trying to justify it to my pocketbook)

wow, upper 20's is extremely good.

My '03 Gt Vert 5spd gets between 18-25 depending on the type of driving. I also have a 1970 Ford Fairlane 500 with the 302 (5.0) and an automatic. It gets between 14-20 MPG.

Strictly road-trip-only mileage. Normally it's in that 18-22 range. I've gotten as bad as 14.

I've heard that changing headers is bad... my Cobra has 40k on the clock, so O2 sensors are coming up soon... but I havnen't attempted 'em yet.

The headers, though, I've heard require jacking the engine up and other sorts of madness. Oy. Someone said that the DOHC cars were easy to work on... lol. ;-)

I never replaced them until the light came on and a code was set for them. One was replaced under warranty around 45K, the other one never (93K when sold)
