Targeting Mustangs by insurance co.s proven unfair

Anyone go on the NHTSA website and compared relative costs of accidents, thefts, etc? The V8 Mustangs are barely beyond the 100 mark which is the average for all cars. Meanwhile, things like the Tiburon are WAY above it. But if you price insurance of the high cost Jap mobiles versus the Mustang, the Mustang is still higher or neck in neck. What exactly is the reason for this? The Mustangs dropped in cost because of three things:

  1. Much harder to steal than in the 80s and 90s so they fell off the top 10.
  2. Far safer than they used to be owing to improvements in safety equipment and handling.
  3. Better in accidents and MUCH cheaper to replace parts than Jap cars. Also, they are not cars you can buy for a dime a dozen like in the 1980s. The insurance industry says it bases it's premiums on those three factors. So why are prices so high???

Same as anything else: because we're willing to pay them. Come up with a $50,000 bond instead, and tell your Ins. Co. to go screw themselves if you want to make them squirm. If we all did this, prices would drop.

But let's face it: very few of us actually wants to use OUR money to self-insure; we'd rather just pay the high premiums and risk someone else's money.

If I could get away with it in this state, I would. That would only be $500 a year.
