I had a similar problem with the 4.6 in mine my mechanic tells me that ford is notorious for bad plug wires and he was right I replaced the plugs and wires and it worked great. you can also at night open your hood take out your light bulb under your hood so its real dark and then have someone rev up the car I you can see the electricity going through the plug wires that's your problem. hope this helps......
