Why do people do this?

Just for *trivia's* sake I thought I'd post the origin of the golden rule. It fits perfectly here. It's actually Hebrew and the inverse of what it is now. "Don't do anything to others that you don't want done to you."

Which reminds me... WHY IN THE HELL do people walk behind a moving vehicle of ANY size when they can clearly see that it is moving ?????

Every single time I back out of a parking space, either in the truck or in my car some idiot nearly gets creamed because I cannot see him until my view is cleared by getting back far enough to see around the cars next to me.

I take it slow and steady, but man these people are just ASKING for it.

Ever stop to think that most of those may be privately owned rigs?

Bwahahaha....now I know you're a troll....and ignorant. Please do explain how your right to expect common courtesy expires when surpassing an arbitrary number posted on the side of the road. This ought to be good....

Well gee, CJ, we should not have any respect or common courtesy when someone is driving over the speed limit....you said so yourself.

I've noticed this a lot more in the last couple of years. Usually it seems to be out of sheer stupidity rather than attitude. If you look out the window and tell some woman to "GTH offa my ass!" she usually gets this total look of horror and "I couldn't possibly have done something wrong." There is a law on our books and a story on the news talking about how tailgating has become an epidemic, especially in line at traffic lights.

** Wanna know what happened to waving or nodding at your fellow motorists? ** Watch a church parking lot empty out on a Sunday. These people have just sat ** through a sermon, but can't wait to cut each other off so they can be first ** to get out.

LOL! Point taken. Back when Motor Movies were in style, I was one of the very few who sat quietly and watched a few mins. of the film again, while everyone raced like MADMEN to get to that tiny exit first. In fact, I often purposely parked right next to the exit, so that Wife #1 and I could laugh in hysterics at some of the antics people pulled.

The funniest had to be the brand new, black Caddie. These folks managed to race fast enough to be first to the exit, but the big El Dorado was so long that it wouldn't quite fit through the exit's tight turn. He tried to back up and straighten it out to no avail: 500+ cars were right on his bumper, and no one would cut him any slack. Retards began flashing lights and honking. He finally just floored it out of sheer frustration. The white, steel poles crushed the entire side of his car as he burned rubber, leaving most of his right-side trim and a smashed taillight laying on the ground. I could not believe that I had just witnessed $10,000 worth of damage, just so that he could be the first to get out. Un....believable.

** Well, I have a little problem with this paragraph, as I have made ** night runs back and forth between Phoenix and L.A. on I-10 many times ** over the years. And the only ** way you are going to clear another truck in 10 seconds is if he's doing ** 55 to your 75. Pulling out, around, and back in from the same lane ** takes at least 45 seconds or longer.

I-10 into AZ is a special case; commercial traffic is allowed (last time I was that way) to do 70 mph, and few rigs are speed-governed in that part of CA. Anywhere north of LA, most company-owned trucks are choked-downt to 62 mph, which makes passing a bitch, especially if the guy you want to pass is an assbite and speeds up on you.

** Sometimes I don't know about you, JD. You seem like a fairly ** paranoid person.

Your impression is inaccurate. I merely denouce the hypocracy of our times, and articulate my rage when I have the time.

** JD, ** ** How do you determine, from your cab, that the driver, in the other car, is ** purposely trying to hold you in the slow lane? They simply may not have ** noticed your signal.

When this problem arises, I'm never in the slow lane: I'm usually in lane #2 next to the slow lane, trying to move back over. I normally run in the slow lane, and don't venture out of it very often.

I can easily tell when someone is a 'blinker blocker.' They always speed up from WAY behind me, race up right next to me, then just sit there. During the daytime, I can see their face very clearly. I have 20-10 vision, and you'd be VERY surprised at what I can see out of those big-assed mirrors. (They're tilted downward so that we can see you folks better.) Some laugh and flip me off. Some actually stick their tongue out or make moronic gestures. Some even faux-dance in their seat while proferring the finger. Sometimes it's pretty amusing, to be honest.

I'll put up with it for a bit, but when I need over, it isn't up for a debate. Sometimes 'dipping' into the lane I need will do the trick. If this doesn't work, I will slowly start over, giving them plenty of time to go bother someone else. This always works. Then I have to start sweating bullets trying to make that 20-mph. exit without going airborne. Not good.

Keep in mind, this becomes important only when someone actually RACES UP right next to me when I kick the TS on. Otherwise, I wait until the lane is clear, then move. It's all a part of 'playing nice' as Dwight puts it.

** ** It also could be that your wanting in the fast lane will interfer with ** *their* plans! And this, sounds like it has all the makings for *road ** rage*. ** ** Drive safely out there! Arrive alive! Sometimes this means you have to ** slow down.

Ahhh, great minds think alike. Hopefully he enjoys it more than I do. I'm deathly bored with it all. Once in a while, something makes it interesting, like the guy in the '97 GT who cut in front of me so closely today, that I ended up leaving 50-feet of charred rubber in my wake to avoid him. He was weaving in-and-out of traffic, tailgating, you know, the works. I think some people just go NUTS in heavy traffic like caged rodents, and think they can just drive their way out of it.

I've got a problem with that: Your "rights" don't expire just because you're speeding, and the car driver has every right to bitch about being cut off at any speed.

In most states "Keep right except to pass" and "Slower traffic keep right" don't have exemptions for those exceeding the speed limit, which means that even if you are speeding yourself, you still need to yield right for faster traffic. This includes trucks.

My respect is not easily or automatically earned. I start with the assumption that every driver (trucks and cars alike) is a moron or a scumbag as you said, and work from there. If they drive like they care about both what they're doing and others around them, they just might get some respect. In any case, I lead by example: I stay the heck out of their way as I would hope they'd stay out of mine.

It wasn't that huge a deal, but it was funny to me. I tapped the brakes on an angry, ugly woman one morning, who insisted on tailgating me for over 5 miles on the freeway.

The good news: it dislodged her nose from my anal cleft.

The bad news: she pulls up alongside me, actually GROWLS showing what appeared to be fangs, then heaves a near-full cup of Starbucks coffee at me. It thwaked the windsheld, splattering into a greasy, sticky mess. Since my windows were up and wipers/washer operational, it just struck me as funny that she spent $4.75 on a Latte to throw at a total stranger. And that I thought it was funny, made it even funnier.

I'm sure she proferred the finger and choice prose as she sped off, but I was laughing too hard to notice.
