1. Anyone tried painting this wretched looking thing ? ( After a few years thething fades like an 80"s band) The dealer wants $120 for a new one. 2. How does the rear wiper come off ? I cannot seem to find a clip to releasethe arm...Thanks.

I don't know what color the 2000 Xterra grill is, but if it is black, you can repaint it with Rustoleum's 'Painter's Choice' Semi-Gloss Black (OK for plastic). That's what I used to paint the faded black plastic fender flares and the black plastic bedliner on my 97 PU.
