Door handle problem (Pathfinder)

Apr 20, 2004 3 Replies

The inner door handle on one of the rear doors on our 1994 Pathfinder has stopped working. If you pull the handle it rotates out and has spring pressure, but it has no effect and won't open the door.

Before I start mucking around trying to remove the door liner, can you suggest what the problem might be, and whether it might be fixed without removing the liner?

Thanks in advance,

You've probably checked this already, but there's a child safety lock on these doors.

Before you take anything apart, make sure somebody didn't set the child lock switch (near the latch mechanism on the door). Many times they are not marked as to function and people will flip it just to see what it does, trapping themselves in the car.

If the outside handle still works and its not the child lock, then its likely the rod that connects the handle to the latch has fallen off. I don't know of any way to get to it without taking the inner liner off.

It was the child latch switch! Never noticed it was there. Thanks, I owe you one...
