Fume coming from vent

Feb 25, 2004 6 Replies

I have a Nissan Sentra 96' For some reason I noticed a couple of days ago that inside the windshield there was a clear grease spot every day by the passenger side. I also noticed that there is coming a clear fume from the front vent some times(the one that is right next to the windshield by passenger's airbag ). I do not know what could be causing this fume.It is not burning fume. I clean the grease with glass cleaner and the spot comes back in minutes Any ideas? Thanks

Kind of sweet smelling? Leaky heater core.

Smell like maple surup (sweet)? Could be heater core starting to go bad. See if the carpet is damp in the front floor boards.

You didn't mention any smells in the car. Do you ever notice an antifreeze smell? You could have a bad heater core.

thanks for the response to all of you. I think you are right, It looks like is the heater core. How can I fix the problem? or cna I fix it myself? and how? Thanks

Doubtful. Most cars (not sure on this specific car) have to have the dash removed to get at the core. It's not a job for amatuers. Then again maybe you could do it? I have no idea how good you are at repairing mechanical stuff.
