Problem with the rear brake lights on 90 STANZA.

Two days ago I drove my car home from work and didnt realize the brake lights were stuck on. They drained the battery but that was easily fixed, the real problem is that i cannot find a way to turn them off short of removing the fuse. Which is the third or fourth from the bottom on the left side I think. The fuse itself also does not appear to be burned or corroded in any way.

Some guys I work with said there might be a sensor of some kind on or around the break pedal area thats making contact even when the pedal is not depressed. So i was wondering whats the best way to get to this sensor and what will it look and feel like when i find it?

Also if theres any other potential causes that warrant investigating please suggest them as well.

Look under the dash near the top of the brake pedal arm. There is a switch with wires coming out of it..

often, there's a plastic button on the pedal arm that pushes on the brake switch plunger, and they get old and crumble away.
