Quest Wet inside

I have a 96 nissan Quest. My wife has noticed that the passenger side and the driver side (not so much) is wet.

Have have done a search on "google" and found this:

How can I unclog the drain?

For Nissan Quest/Mercury Villager Owners

We have a 94 Quest that has a terrible water leak in the front. The carpets are constantly wet despite our best attempts to dry it out. I think it is related to the air conditioner, yet our dealer says not. He has called in a water leak specialist (saying that it is a leak from the cowl) which will take over a month. In the mean time, mildew forms...

Anyone have any similar experiences or know of some kind of service bulletin/secret recall, etc. regarding a problem with symptoms of this kind?

By the way, wet is you lift up the floor mat and the rubber backing is entirely beaded with condensation, and feeling the rug, your hand comes up covered with water, as if you just ran it under a faucet. We do the environmentally unkind thing of having to run the car in the driveway with the heater on full and the windows open to dry out the carpet to the touch... can't say about the pad underneath...for about an hour.

We do live in New England where it does rain a lot, but the last month has been pretty dry...precipitation wise, but very humid. Thanks in advance! Post or email is fine.

You have a clogged air conditioner drain. There is some part of the unit, probably the evaporator, which is filling up with the extracted water. It will find places to drip or pour out of, but will not empty completely. If you do not clear the drain, the blower assembly might fill up and short out (depending on how it is constructed). Get the drain cleared, and then have them clean out what is causing the clog. (If you hear a whirring/whishhhing noise from the fan, especially when you turn, you better fix it quick.)Message 3 in thread From: Dave Parker ( snipped-for-privacy@peewee.unx.dec.com) Subject: Re: Nissan Quest/Mercury Villager Wet Inside

I had the same exact problem cited above with the air conditioning in an 88 Nissan Pathfinder. The A/C design might be similar to that in the Quest.

If I recall correctly, the dealer fixed this without any charge.

I had the same problem with a 97 Nissan Pickup. I noticed a strange rubbing noise in the right front only when making a left turn. It sounded like it was the right front tire rubbing against a loose inner splash shield in the fender when the wheel turned to the left. Upon inspection, I could not find anything wrong up there. I had planned to take the truck to my mechanic to find the source of the noise later in the week. A day or so later, I picked up a box containing something I had bought and had left on the passenger side floor overnight. I noticed that the box was soaking wet on the bottom half. I then felt the floor mats and they were drenched. Having had this problem in other cars that I have owned, I assumed that it was a clogged drain hose. I looked under the dash and saw water slow dripping from the air plenum. I pulled the drain hose that runs from the plenum through the firewall and water poured out of it. I cleaned the coagulated debris out of the drain hose and replaced it. I also pulled the other rubber hose that ran between the air plenum and the blower motor under the dash and about a pint of water ran out of that hose. That rubbing noise disappeared after that. I assume it was shloshing water in the blower motor that was making the noise when I turned left. I had to leave the passenger side rug propped up for about a week so it could dry out in the summer heat. I expect that I might have some problems in the future with that blower motor after its having been wet.
