Auto tranny removal 90 Max

Anyone know if the engine and trans has to be removed as a unit, or can one support the engine and drop the tranny out the bottom??? I have a 90 max (120K) with a more than normal "flare" (slipping)during WOT. If I blip off on the throttle during the shift, everything is fine, oil level OK, slight brownish oil, maybe a blown solenoid o-ring in the valve body?? (I Hope) Thanx for any info in advance. Bob

The Nissan shop manual says you can remove the tranny after removing the axles and other misc stuff. It also says before removing the torque converter, you have to inscribe matching marks so it (torque converter) goes back w/ the same registration on the crankshaft. Every car should allow transaxle removal w/o removing the engine otherwise there would be some p*ssed-off mechanics in this world, you would think!

I guess you know you can service the valve body w/o removing the tranny. BTW, does yours slow-shift when cold? See my message regarding this condition.

Good luck.
