Has Nissan redesign to make these parts last longer?

Question

I have read about the Nissam Maxima's Service Engine Soon light on on this news group. There are many related problems that caused this light on. For instance, 02 sensor, ignition coil, etc... Most cars have this problem after put 50,000 miles on it. Replace these parts are not cheap, I just wonder that has Nissan redesigned to make these parts (02 sensor and ignition coil) last longer? Otherwise, the 95-99 Maxima owner has to replace them again on next 50K miles. I could not find any link that I can ask the Nissan on its website nissanusa.com. Anyone could help. Thanks

The failing ignition coils was a defect (vendor issue)that has been corrected. Oxygen sensors get contaminated after a number of miles. They are in the exhaust stream so it's hard to prevent this. The number of miles varies widely depending on driving conditions and fuel. I've seen lots of Max's with over a 100K on original sensors and I have a '96 Pathfinder with 114K on the original sensors.Dallas Cowboy wrote:

Dunno about ignition coil, but the O2 sensor isn't that expensive. You can pretty easily DIY in about two hours and you may not need to replace all three. (I think my '98 has three sensors. I could be wrong.)

You're right.  The ignition coil has been re-designed for all Maximaafter 2001.  Nissan admitted a defect in the old coil.  I found thisinfo after talking with a Parts Sale and Service at a Nissan Dealer. He also shows me the new part # that has been changed in his computerdatabase.
