Is it possible to fit carbs to the 1900 GTi?
If so ,where would be the best place to source the manifold & carbs.

Yes.
No clue, perhaps looking for XU92C manifold & carb. I guess that brings no gain, you'd better stick to EFI.

Check eBay. Sometimes the manifolds come up on there - with or without the carbs. Here's one option:
