Re: 206 GTi such a dog

idle control unit/stepper motor is a common 306/206 fault

i've suggested this in the past but they seem reluctant to change things until the ecu logs a fault

the new ecu is making a far better task of corecting the faults but are now getting worse but it fails to log the car when it stutters and seems to lose a cylinder it at the moment only does it for less than a second before it could go on for several seconds resulting in an ecu fault capture.

but they thought the ecu was at fault, but wonder if all these faults constant can kill the ecu?

cheers

the stepper fault doesn't always show on the ecu log or so i'm told. In fact loads of fault don't show on the ecu log. why they changed the ecu (£500) BEFORE the stepper (£70) is probably because the ecu is easier

just been to the dealer and they are not prepared to investigate any further as the new ECU is fine according to them

the service manager sat in the car and cannot feel the rough idle cannot see the shaking of the gearstick and cannot see the ECU hunting from time to time. They had a 15 minute drive in it and can't feel any flat spots. well i can

they funnily enough wouldn't let me try any other peugeots so they can show me that they all do it.

peugeot customer services are a waste of space

the car is not safe it cuts out from time to time and has flat spots that come and go and every now and then loses all power, which is great when you've just pulled out

the warranty is about to end in october

i give up i really do, any one have a solution? i can't even sell it because no one in their right mind would buy that and i've lost so much money on it its worthless now.

how i wish i'd bought a clio 172 now

the ecu light is still on, its running like a bag of shit at the moment they do tend to believe you with the light on

my dad was with me yesterday and he'll come with me in the morning

it's generally ok once they've done a new ecu download but gets worse and worse til it hits this stage and they know this

its had double figures of ecu downloads

its a lemon and they know it

the rough idle/vibration at 1000 rpm is there all the while

i've written some letters today

to trading standards to the dealer i bought the car from rejecting it the dealer who can't fix it asking why the society of motor traders asking for help

anyone who knows about cars will only have to drive it to feel the flatspots and jerks

any other ideas? apart from sell the sack of shit? no one in their right mind will buy it at the moment will they and why should i sell it i like it when it works which these days is so very rare

Someone at work has a 206 GTi and has given her no strife at all (and she has given it a lot of strife, especially at traffic lights).

As you say, you've got a lemon. I tend to agree that it will be a shit for ever. I'd sell it if I were you - do an ECU download so it is OK-ish again, and flog it, preferably back to them.

Regarding you liking it when it works, buy another GTi from a respectable dealer, preferably a year old. I always buy my cars a year old as they have run in and should have got past the teething problem stage. I have never had a problem with a car yet (touch wood).

Good luck.

It does sound like it's detecting detonation and retarding, hence it goes downhill after a ecu download

Try disconnecting the battery for half an hour and then reconnecting next time it starts acting like a dog.

If its good again, then it is the ecu retarding the settings

the dealer is stumped so its awaiting transfer to an even bigger dealer in birmingham this dealer is peugeot owned

i'm going to try the legal route as this is unacceptable

they have had double figures attempts in 10 months

if it's that bad you can go throygh the small claims court. I think it cost £15 to do so. Make sure you've got a list of every visit and what was done. My dealer didn't log every visit i made when my 306 did the same thing. I logged them though!!As i said before video the car playing up. They can't argue with that.

yes i am now keeping a full log the dealers have only listed occasions where they have undertaken work. i have 5 listed from dealer 2 alone.

the car is now being tested at a pug owned dealers in birmingham. i'm awaiting their call back
