1997 Boneville Chimes/Alerts

Can anyone list the things that make the chimes sound for 97 Bonneville?

Example,

  1. Pressing brake to put car in gear
  2. Leaving turn signal on Etc...

These chimes/alarms are sounding in my car at random with no message displayed on the instrument panel. I have no idea what it is warning me about.

Car was serviced about 3 months ago to replace ignition modulator. Have heard these sounds ever since. Don't know if they were happening before the maintenance or not. Never noticed.

Thanks for any help

Not exactly an electrical genius here but, having the Door open with the key in ignition sounds a chime as does opening door with the lights on and engine off.

Low fuel warning chime another possiblity.

Turn signal On chime - I'm not sure if it was offered on a Bonneville in

  1. One of the chimes speakers may be shorting out causing it to chime.

By any chance does this occur on a high humidity day ? Is there dampness in your car, sometimes humidity can play tricks on electircal parts.

good luck

I just purchased a used Bonneville and when I was driving home a Chime was going off over and over. During the Day it was not visible on the dash so when I was out the other night I could see it on the Dash. It was saying "Security Alert Door Ajar" I double checked the door and it was shut securely and every bump I hit on the way home the light would flash and the chime would sonund again. I took the door panel off the next day and found a loose wire going to the locking mechanisim. I could not see where exactly it was suppose to go so I just unplugged it from the harness and the chime has gone away. However the car does not recognize when the door is open. But hey it?s worth it not to have the chine going off all of the time.

So in short check the door sensors to make sure none of the wires are loose.
