93 Grand AM 2.3L SOHC Head Failure

Aug 15, 2003 1 Replies

My brother just purchased a 93 Grand AM 2.3 SOHC. He is the second owner. 30 days later he is looking at a major repair (1200 smackers) because the cylinder head has cracked. The mechanic says by the appearance of the head and manifold as well as the crack, it is apparent that the head has been cracked for quite some time.

There was a recall issued by GM in late 96 for this issue. My question is GM still responsible to cover this vehicle under recall since it was never serviced under this recall?

Thanks

I think Ian is right. I've heard that before. Because even the "newer" motors sometimes crack head, even on other engine types, and so after a certain age or mileage in their eyes it could have happened either after or before the "fix".
