94 Grand Prix GTP Tranny Problems I think

I have a 94 gtp and i had new tranny put in two weeks ago however today it started to miss. also at start up when the engine is cold i have to give it gas to keep it running this was a preexsisting problem. When i do this i can smell gas and also the idle is out of control even when the engine is warm it seems like the idle is kinda high. The computer doesnt read back an error btu clearly something is wrong and im afraid the new tranny might go to. I have heard it could be the idle control switch. but it seems to be agreeable that theres probably a computer problem causing a miss fire or something. Does any one have any suggestions?

Thank You ~J

Hello!

I have a 93 Grand Prix and it just receintly started to idle high as well. Fortunatly it gave me a code and it was related the Idle Air Controller. I have yet to replace it but from past experience I replaced one before and had to reprogram the onboard computer. That fixed my high idle rate.

That is if you want to pay for a mechanic to get the codes. If you have an Advance Auto Parts store they can tell you your computer diagnostics codes for free. Some other auto parts stores may do the same as well!

If you are curious the IAC code off my car was 35 if I remember correctly.

Thanks, Yea i took it to auto zone but my service engine light doesnt stay on so they couldnt pull any codes. I was told to have the cold start valve checked as well as the o2 control.

Thanks for your help. ~ J

The ECU stores codes. If there was one, it is still there - unless someone wiped it.
