95 quad 4 problem

I have a freind that has a 95 GA Quad 4 that has this problem. WHen the RPM gets to a certain spot, the engine will hesitate. It will almost act like the RPM limiter is kicking in. But it doesn't matter if you are sitting still on driving down the road. It doesn't havce a tach, so I don't knot what the RPM is at. The engine isn't "Racing" though. probavly about 3000 to 4000 RMP if I had top guess. Also, sometimes it will die as it starts to hesitate. When it dies, it is hard to start back up. Cranks, but doesn't start.

He has changed the crank position sensor, the fuel pump regulator, the fuel pump and plugs & wires. None of this helped the problem.

Anybody else had this happen. We can't figure it out.

There's a good number of sensors that may be causing that. Has the SES light come on yet? And have you checked the throttle cable for problems? Unfortunatly, for the sensors it's OBD-I with OBD-II connetors. So you can pay a good chunk of money for a scanner, have it scanned, or something I've done with the help of a repair manual and a multimeter, you can check suspected sensors yourself. Oh, and see if the throttle body needs cleaned. Perhaps that. Seems like you've covered what I would have first checked. Ignition and fuel. Other than this stuff, I'm out of ideas.

Try rapping lightly on the MAF sensor with a hammer with engine revved up. If the stumble occurs, you have solved it. GW
