the fan works on high , but doesnt work on the first couple settings, someone says its the motor resistor gone? can anyone help? its a friends van. fuses all ok.

yes blower resistor, extremely common on most pontiacs
Sounds like the blower motor resistor is shot. Its a common on vehicles that have blower motors.
On pontiacs the connections to the relays that control the blower motor are also suspect - particularly when HIGH does not work. The spade connectors overheat, lose tension, and oveheat some more untill the terminal block is so badly melted you can not pull it apart any more ------.
Good info, Thanks! A different blower motor: the connections on my radiator motor did that last month. I got stainless steel spades for a stove top range and used them. Lexan caulked them in place with a bakelite divider.
