i have a 98 firebird and it takes around 5 to 10 minutes after i start the car for the heater to start doing what its supposed to do - "keep me from freezing to death"! please help me with this problem. tell me what i need to get done to rectify this. do i need to change the coolant? do i need to get it flushed? all the other fluids in the car have been taken care of recently. so please tell me what the problem could be and help me rectify this...

Check Fluid Level. Check for plugged radiator / heater core. Check for collapsing Radiator hoses. Check Thermostat to see if it opens fully. Flush system if needed. Make sure there is no air in the cooling system. Whats the condition of the Radiator cap?

if you havent had the cooling system flushed since 98 then it may help. get it done by someone that will use a hose and flush till clean water comes out. those fast flush deals dont get the sludge out.. new thermostat may help to.lucas
