Thnks for the replies, I now know that the early (83-86) 944 had no seals in the pressure relief valve. The later (86 on ) had 2 seals , these seals presumably prevented any oil going behind the valve, They must have been effective because the first ones were untreated & were so inclined to corrosion that the part was supeseded with a stainless part. Porsche must have had a reason to upgrade the original presure relief valve & went to some lengths to prevent the oil from having back flow by redesigning the part.. I have a problem with oil cotaminating the coolant. I believe that the oil cooler housing has previously been replaced but the original 3 piece oil pressure relief valve has not. I suspect that fitting the later pressure relief valve may stop the leak?. The leak I suspect being caused by the back flow causing pressure in a part of the housing not designed for any oil pressure in that area. Has any one a 1 piece relief valve they want to sell , pref in W Aus. I could easily be wrong in my diagnosis & dont have the confidence to buy the new part. any comments would be appreciated.
