Will Porsche be forced to build high mileage cars?
Porsche supposedly will announce their hybrid decision next month at the Frankfurt IAA.
Higher mileage may be a side effect, or their hybrid may not get much better mileage. One of the things to consider is that with the electric motors, you don't have to get spool up the motor to get peak torque - pretty much the motor's full power is almost immediately available - they can be optimized to help acceleration quite a bit.
I think that replacing the AWD system in the C4 with two super high torque electrics at the front would make for an awesome machine. Mitsubishi showed that on the concept version of the new Eclipse, but it didn't make the production version.
See if you can find the stats for electric drag racer, there acceleration is astounding.

Didn't the earlier Dr Porsche hold a patent for electric drive hubs... would be interesting if they had 4 wheel drive with high torque, powered hubs and a small motor to provide DC current...
