Wirring sound

Whirring Sound There is a small electric-pump that pumps 3 liters of coolant into a thermal container (to keep it hot) every time you turn the hybrid system power OFF. When the power is turned back ON, the coolant is pump back into the engine. This process reduces emissions, by achieving warm-up much faster than with an engine that would normally have to heat itself up. This process also helps to reduce wear & tear on the engine.

Fascinating. Next please enlighten us on the inner workings of the Lunar Lander, over at: alt.lunar.landers.grumman

Yes, and after about a year, this pump makes a nasty buzzing/grinding noise every time it runs in cold temperatures.

I hear the same sound when I have to brake frequently on a long downhill road. Does this mean it pumps each time 3 liters into the container?

That's a different pump. That's the brake accumulator.

I live in the UK and therefore have the European spec - which doesn't (for reasons best known to Toyota) have the thermos. However, about 45 secs to 1 minute after I switch it off the Prius issues a very audible "whirring" sound which - if there was one - would pass as a very good imitation for what I imagine the thermos pump would sound like. Is it one of those bits that they just leave in cos it's cheaper to do that than omit it at build (even though it's pumping something to nowhere)?

I actually get a lot of good information from Fred's posts, so why don't you go enlighten the rest of the internet somewhere else.

Really?

No substitute for RTFM. Try it some time.

Then go back to your trashcan.

Genius. I say go somewhere else and you come back telling me to go back to trashcan. Monkey see monkey do? I didn't say why don't you continue with your moron-a-thon. Let the guy post in peace, he's making a contribution. Your wasting space.

Where did you say to go somewhere else?

Quoting the user manual, and posting something that's common knowledge and previously discussed here is making a contribution?

RTFM, check Sesame Street for your proper housing assignment, then FOAD.

Based solely on the number of questions posted here and in other Prius forums about the "wirring sound" I'd say yes, he is making a contribution. Don't the whiners have anything better to do?

I also got alot of information from Fred's posts and I can't see what kind of contribution you are making. If you have nothing constructive to add, then remain silent.

Yes, he's making a contribution all right. It's wrong as easily proven by european Priuses that whirr without having the thermal can for coolant, but let's give him an A for effort.

Hpmf.

Reading the owner's manual out loud to lazy clueless whiners is "making a contribution"?

Apparently it worked for you.

"I actually get a lot of good information from Fred's posts, so why don't you go enlighten the rest of the internet somewhere else."

I believe the rest of the internet qualifies as somewhere else. And you want to get in the middle of this why?

Fred's not hurting anything with his posts here. Someone getting sarcastic with him aint helping anything. I'm just saying the sarcastic one, "That one" as JM would say, ought to leave him alone.

Because you claimed something not in evidence.

I also am not really adding anything constructive in this thread, only asking the sarcastic person who is also not adding anything constructive to back off Fred. Well, unless the Sesame Street reference is considered constructive around here.

Here's the whole part of the thread referenced. How is this not in evidence?
