Rover 75 gremlins

Hi group,

I've had a T-reg Rover 75 for eighteen faultless months, if you don't count one replacement headlight bulb. About a month ago, I had a little coming together at a roundabout when some bugger in a Punto decided to change lanes at a roundabout at the last second and stand on the anchors. No prizes for guessing who came off worse (light damage to NSF wing and bonnet), but a couple of things have gone wrong since getting the car back from the bodyshop.

1: ABS warning light: The day after getting the car back, the ABS warning light came on. Friends suggested Direct Line's bodyshop might've disturbed something, or there may have been gunk on a sensor. A couple of days later the light went out again......

2: Speedometer: Tonight I went to do the Big Shop at Asda, and suddenly the speedo died - and that ABS warning light came on again.

My questions are:

1: Is there really likely to have been anything damaged during repairs?

2: Are these jobs something I can do meself, and if so, how? I helped the next door neighbour change the speedo cable on his Seat Toledo, which was hell on earth. I read somewhere that later Rovers use some kind of electrical sender for the speedo rather than the usual mechanical cable...

Any help greatly appreciated!

I suppose so - but the last thing you want to do is repair it yourself. Get on the phone and, well, complain until they put it 100% right.

Sounds like an ABS sensor on one of the front wheel hubs has failed, this will bring on the warning lamp. If I remember correctly (it has been a couple of years since I left Rover) the speedometer also picks up its signal from here too, I am sure if I am incorrect someone will let me know!!! :-)

And would I be right in saying that the sensor picks up its signal from the wheel bearing as opposed to a toothed external wheel? It seems familiar.
