1983 900 smell gasoline inside

Hello,

Does anyone know what could cause a smell of gasoline in the inside of the car?

Thanks, Elwin.

I had a crack in the plastic inlet that you put the pump nozzle into. As the tank is normally pressurized, the crack let fuel vapors into the trunk.

Since (I think) no one else has mentioned this, I'll tell you what it turned out to be on my old 1985 Saab. There is a rubber (or neoprene)seal/gasket that seals the fuel gauge sending unit to the top of the fuel tank. It is accessible on the 1985 model through an access plate under the rear carpeting, just in front of the spare tire well. The part is cheap, and relatively easy to replace. Be certain to get the right one for your model car, as there are at least two different ones.
