1999 9-5 issues?

Yes there are issues with most ... not all 9-5's due to lack of maintenance bad parts and design issues.

1. PCV design - Saab is working on yet another retrofit

1. SID Display - loses pixels - there is a fix that I will be applying to my 9-5 soon
2. Rear shocks are weak - Bilstein sports on mine ( front and back) are huge improvement

I'm happy with my 2000 9-5. I've owned it for 2 years, 40k with no repairs except the ignition module.

I'd add to the list turbo failure - due to a manufacturing/design fault. It's probably already been replaced under warranty - but check for blue smoke when starting from completely cold

Thanks to all of you for the help. Since I posted, I looked at a 2001 9-5 with a 6 cylinder engine, which also has a turbo. It has 90,000 miles on it. Any issues I should look for on that one? Thanks.

Yes, the engine. It's an Opel (GM) engine. Not a Saab-developed engine. Fuel-consumption is higher than the I4's. It doesn't have at chain, so it has higher servicecosts, than the I4.

This is the strange asymmetrical turbo where only one bank of V6 drives the turbo wheel. Output is 200 bhp, in fact less than the non-turbo Opel equivalent with 210 bhp. Nevertheless is should give a smooth drive that some might like.

Yes, this is a strange. I had no clue that only 3 cylinders out of 6 would power the turbo. Isn't this something like a horse having 2 legs? :)
