2.0 Turbo Engine rebuild?

Salutations:

Looking information and experiences on a non-DI '89 9000 Turbo engine rebuild.

I have pulled the engine, intake plumbing, wiring, modules and auto tranny from my bent 9000 CD and want to refresh the engine turbo before I attempt to drop it into my NG900 or alternatively donor 5 speed 9000 shell.

Auto tranny was done about 12k ago and is for sale in case anyone is interested.

Anyway, I am thinking about having the crank/pistons/rods balanced and having the head ported in addition to new seals and pumps all round. I am not looking to build a high performance engine, but rather a smoother and therefore longer lived basically stock engine. Happy with the stock non-DI ignition - will need to replace distributor head.

Anything I should consider as 'upgradeable' in the cam or timing chain area or stick with factory parts? Anyone know if the crank stub needs to be modified to mate with a five speed?

Hi Dex,

I've not come across anything in the way of upgrades in that area. Needless to say a new chain, guides + tensioner should be on the list.

AFA the crank is concerned I'm pretty sure it's the same. Not done this myself on a 9k (have done on a C900), but have seen plenty stripped down ones.

Hey brother Grunff - I'm thinking its the same as well, but would sure love to know before I have it peeled and pressed back together. I'm pretty sure I want to stick with factory parts in and around the engine if possible - but you hear so many rumours of greener grass across the fence. LUV to find a more robust set of seals and gaskets for her, but no luck so far.
