'94 9000 CSE blower motor issue

Feb 08, 2006 3 Replies

Hi all,

I just bought the above vehicle yesterday knowing I would have to replace the blower motor and the heater core. On driving home, I decided to turn on the ACC. The motor seemed to operate but with varying speed and was accompanied by a sound that I can guess was the fan blades beating on something. This sound would get louder and softer with no real consistency. I'm thinking that some of the blades may be bent and are contacting the housing but the thought also occurred to me that maybe something has fallen into the housing such as insulation or something. I plan on doing the work myself so I won't truly know the answer until I get in there. I'm wonderinging if anyone out there has experienced this issue with the motor. If it's something simple, I wouldn't need to buy them motor/fan.

TIA,

Derek

Thanks for the link. Looks like it will save quite a bit of time in making an evaluation of the motor.

Yes. The blower motor on a 9k is a PITA to remove. But practice makes perfection. In the course of a week and a half, I did it three times diagnosing the blower motor symptom on my 94cde. The third time I did it in 30 minutes, removal and installation.
