Building that car stereo in a 96

I own a 1978 SAAB96.

Hello, altough I love listening to the natural noises of my car, sometimes I would like to listen to some music. So, I bought a new car stereo, but I noticed that there aren´t any ISO connectors in my car to fit in my radio.... But I have seen classic SAAB´s with a radio !? Haynes manual couldn´t help me, they believe installing radio´s is "a job for a specialist", but I would like to try it myself. Anyone got a idea for me where to start?

Thank you! Bas, The Netherlands

I prefer old AM/FM mono radios in old SAABs.....

You can get a special radio console that can be fitted below the dashboard, see

There's also a flat version without the loudspeaker, check with Anton Potze in Ter Apel (0599 583853) he may have one. You can buy an ISO plug that fits the radio, you will have to wire the speakers yourself. The speakers can be fitted in the panels left and right, above the baskets.

Buy a radio and two speakers (more if you want). Find a suitable place to mount them, and do so. Connect the radio to the speakers with suitable speaker wire. Connect the radio ground to a good ground point. Connect the permanent live to the battery via a suitable fuse. Connect the switched live to a suitable switched live. If in doubt take it off somewhere near the ignition switch (again suitable fuse). Hook up the antenna. That's it!
