Clarion car stereo issues.

Sorry I know this isn't directly to do with car maintenance but I figure I lot of people will have had this problem so I figured I'd ask here.

I own a Peugeot 205 (1.8D) which came fitted with a Clarion stereo. We recently moved house and in the process lost the card with the security number on. Now I've had to replace the battery and the car stereo needs it's security code. I found a program online which should have given me the correct code based on the serial number but the code it gave contained a 6 and I can only enter digits 1-5. My s/n is 0040339 model no. PU-9469A and other random number on label 286-7371-01. If anyone know's how to calculate this code or another way of circumventing it I'd be greatful to know about it. I realise there are firms who charge for this service but the prices I've seen are greater than the worth of the stereo.

Thanks. Tom.

My local Pug dealer gave me the code for free when the same happened with our 306.

Check your documentation/tax disk holder/rear numberplate/rear windscreen to see who supplied the car when new. Give them a call. If you are lucky they'll give you the code over the phone.

Hmm I called the garage (Newcastle Motors, Telford) but they are now Telford Motors Telford and no longer have my car on record. They are asking for £14.99 to retrieve the number from Peugeot. I think I'm in the market for a new stereo at that price. Thanks for your help. Tom.

That's about the going rate for a "new" one down your local dodgy boozer, I believe. For another tenner, you can probably get to specify exactly the one you want - given a couple of days notice.

Speak nicely to the guys in the parts department of your local Peugeot dealer, see if they will give you the code free of charge - the service departments usually charge. Take the car and V5 with you, to show proof of ownership.

Worked for me last week...

Are you sure you're entering the code right?

(I assume you only have buttons 1-5, so it doesn't look like you can enter a 6)

The last time I had to enter a code, you entered the first digit by repeatedly pressing 1, the second by repeatedly pressing 2, the third with 3, fourth with 4, then hit some obscure button to enter the code (rather than the obvious '5' it was the 'tune up' button or something).

If not, then I dunno.
