Handbrake

Hi All,

Please explain the procedure for setting the had brake so that is stays set. My Mechanic tells me that he removes a "cover screw" on the caliper and then can access and adjust a screw (hex socket?) to set the hand brake.

When I leave his shop, it works normally. Then for a couple of operation I must pull very hard on the lever, all the way to what seems to be a stop in order to hold the Car no even a modest grade.

Two or three operations later and the han brake pulled as far as it will go will not hold the car on any grade.

The mechanic tells me that the adjustment screw which he uncovers and recovers is "backing off" on its own each time that I use the had brake. This seems ridiculous to me. How do others keep the screw in adjustment? Do they (or Saab for that matter) use a thread stacking compound like "Locktite" Or is he in the wrong place altogether?

Thank you,

Malcolm Mason
