I have alot of carbon coming from my tailpipe and on my spark plugs that foul weekly.My coolant gauge also never moves when vehichle is warmed up.there is a strong gas oder as well.No codes on scanner. I've replaced fuel filter.Im guessing my coolant sensor may be the instigator. so today I unpluged the sesor and my gauge jumps up to half way mark.(though I had run it for a mere min.) none-the-less could I be on the right track?

Sounds like it. You might want to replace the upstream O2 sensor as well as run GM's top engine cleaner through the system if you know how.
ok when you say you smell gas is it comming out the tail pipe I had the same problem I would smell gas comming out the back. My car seemed to be running fine but I smelled gas comming out the back .I tried replacing the spark plugs and wires that didn't work. So I changed my coil packs and it stoped it. I hope this will help
