I have a '99 SL2 and was wondering if it was safe to drill a screw hole a few(3") inches to the left of the airbag indent w/o damaging the airbag?
Thanks

I have no idea where you are talking about...? What is this being done for?
"K2NNJ" typed until their fingers bled, and came up with:
on the steering wheel? NO.
on the passenger side dash? probably
Yes on the dash, between the radio and the airbag.
Why not use some adhesive backed velcro. They make the stuff pretty strong these days. John

Velcro is a good idea. Or use some kind of a spring-loaded clip to go around the steering wheel. What are you using this mic for? Handsfree cell phone? Radio comms for racing? A bait car? A different purpose requires a different approach. ie, if you're using it for racing you should figure out how to build it into your helmet (or get one of the many kits designed for this). Cell phones have handsfree speakerphone kits that you can buy from your provider or (often cheaper) from a 3rd party. A bait car would be better served but placing the mic in the molding above the driver's head or in the dome light.
Generally speaking, drilling holes anywhere near the airbag is a bad idea. Even if you don't hit the airbag itself, you may end up hitting some of the electronics/wiring/etc, or cause the airbag to deploy improperly because you've damaged the cover.
