Engine dead.... help please!!

My 1999 SC2 died on the way home from work a couple weeks ago, and I just got around to replacing the fuel pump today (like everyone told me it was). Well, it wasn't the pump. I still don't hear the pump run when I first turn the key to 'on'. I switched the contactor with the one for the HVAC (they're both the same model number) and still no juice. Does anyone have an idea for me? My wife needs her car back, so I need to get this fixed. Thanks in advance, Justin

Did you get the fuel filter as well?

Start over, what is it doing, give us symptoms. Does it give out hot or cold? Does it start to stumble before it dies? Will it not start hot?

You need these 3 things for that engine to run, Air-Fuel-Spark. What of those 3 is it not getting?

There is a fuel pump priming wire near the battery. For future reference try it, you dont need to swap relays to prime the pump.

So are you or are you not currently getting fuel pressure? If not there "should" be (not sure with saturn) a red wire not hooked to anything near the battery. You can jumper that to the positive post and that should supply power straight to your fuel pump. You can even try spraying some starting fluid into the intake to see if you get the motor to hit that way. Just dont spray to much.

I am not getting fuel pressure. I don't see a red wire that I could hook up to the battery, so Saturn must not have done that. I checked the fuse, and the contactor, and still no luck. Anything else? I plan on working on this in the morniing. Thanks!

Well I wish my copy of GM eSI covered Saturns... You could really use a schematic for this. You're probably not getting power to your fuel pump. You will need to start tracing down why that is. You can always go back to the pigtail coming from your fuel tank and hook a 12v source directly up to the fuel pump to see if it runs. (incase of fire be ready to get the heck out from under there.)

Good luck.

I got it figured out. I opened the trunk this morning to hand-over-hand the wires and I saw a 'lake' in the drivers side of the trunk. The seal on the trunk is leaking allowing water to accumulate in the recessed area behind the wheel well. I drained the water out and saw a badly corroded connector that just happened to go to my fuel pump. I cut tthe wires and put in butt splices in its place and the pump runs fine. Thanks for your help! Justin

There is a pickup screen at the pump, seldom ever gets clogged. Then the fuel filter, then some small screens pressed into the injectors. Thats all that I know of.
