...I've been running around without my front plate on my 97sl2. This morning on the way to work I got pulled over by the police and was asked nicely to put the plate back on. I couldn't locate replacements for the 3 original plastic rivets at the car parts store, and used some door/panel trim fasters for a Ford instead - so far so good. I sure liked (past tense) the look of the front without the plate - darn!

So, get the fix-it ticket signed off, and then (ahem) remove it again!
You DO know why there is a general crack-down on front license plates, don't you?
It's so that the red-light cameras can get a good shot at your license while they're taking the picture of your smiling face as you run the light.
You could always move to a state where they do not use front plates :)

Some nice property for sale just down the road from me, Jonnie. But you'd have to learn to like snow.

...the cop was cool and no ticket - I told him I'd take care of it the same day (and I did). Yeah, I know about the stupid cameras - there was a controversy here about conflict of interest and so they were switched off for a long time. I think they are just started to switch them back on under a new set of rules.
I should get a couple pieces of the glass that switches from clear to opaque with the flip of a switch (saw it on one of those future home shows) and put over my plates. However I don't run red lights and I'm not James Bond so guess there's no point to that effort! (grin)
...it's crossed my mind a few times for a number of reasons making San Diego less and less like home.
...or just stay inside all winter with a massive movie collection! (grin)
You don't drive around wearing a mask?
I used to drive with a Nixon mask ("Tricky Dicky just ran a red light!") just to avoid being recognized....
NYS thruway toll booth guys had no sense of humor, I'll tell ya.
Tony
I know that in Michigan it's against the law. I don't have time right know, but I can post the reference later if you want.
