A visitor from Calgary and I had an interesting talk, about cars, but also about the US Navy. He seems to know as much, if not more, than I. He even knew the name of the ship that was turned into the original CV
- Langley! (as my dad was in it, I knew he was right. He knew a lot about cars - and Studebakers. I must admit that I told him a couple of things, though. He also pointed out the Vance and Nance name coincidence regarding the merger.
A group of seven brothers was having a family reunion, and asked if the Hill-holder was ever available in the Avanti. I said that I thought that it was and also mentioned the Subaru one mounted in an Avanti a friend has in GB.
Among the donations was a stack of Atlantic Auto Advertisers. They did the SDC Magazine printing when I was editor. One issue had the cover photo of the SDC Quarterly on it's cover, with a shorter version of Mike Ellings meet report inside. I used to write a check for the publications when I picked them up, hopeing that renewal funds would come in before my check bounced!
I looked for Dick Langworths book, "Last Onslaught on Detroit" to see if the Frazer 4-door convertible had drop-down B pillars like the Israli Lark did. The book is missing. Had I known it was going walking, I might have been tempted to be on the other end of the leash!
I copied a few pages from Longstreets book for possible use in my upcoming talk. As it was written for the 100th anniversary, it may not be impartial.
