What is your guess as to the exact date the wrecking ball starts on the old SASCO/Stude building?
Not wanting to disrespect the overly sensitive masses over on the SDC forum.()... I did not pose this inevitable question over there...
I find the actions of South Bend pretty disturbing and short sighted.
My impressions of the engineering building were that it should be recycled intact rather than be demolished and the cleared land remain vacant as is the case with much of South Bend.

Mostly no but a few of the original dozens yes.
On my several visits to SASCO, my impression was that this was a significant building and one that was well constructed an a suitable candidate for weatherization and preservation as a functional facility.
Of course it takes vision to see such things and quite frankly, South Bend has shown little in that regard.

Want it fixed?
Buy it and fix it. It will cost more than the 2¢ you offered, but if you want to see the buildings saved more than the residents of South Bend, it would be money well spent for you.
Vision is a relative thing. I don't have to look at, pay for, or otherwise deal with the s*it Studebaker left behind in South Bend, so it would be easy for me to say they should spend their money to save the buildings... so long as such action would cost me 2¢ or less.
Does this mean I wouldn't prefer to see the buildings saved? Certainly not! I would, in fact, prefer to see them saved, and therefore will match your 2¢! Now, we got 4¢. Any other contributers? Hell, at this rate we're bound to Git Er Done!
What blight exists in Austin that we folks in Oklahoma can help promote for you folks to finance hanging on to?

South Bend residents deserve such a gift for the "holiday."
The last news blurb I saw gave Feb 16th as the date the inventory was to be removed. My gut was telling me the Tuesday after Labor Day. Now I am thinking more like St. Patrick's Day. (Always search for a metaphor a politician can use in a future campaign...like driving the snakes out of town)
