How hard is it to start a new Google NG?

You've completed the easy part, now the hard part... getting people to use it. Many have tried and failed before you... you will need to provide something there that will get people to move.

SDC has an excellent site, but then 'Virtual Studebaker Swap' WAS an excellent site too, until one day it went away for good. I like to use the "Don't put all of your eggs in one basket" method.

On the downside of the SDC site, too many people insist on closing out every blog they put on it, by adding some standard 'boiler plate' to sign off. This really gets bad, when the same photo(s) of their car is added to it EVERY TIME. That hog of bandwidth, is especially bad for folks on dialup, who still want to be part of it. It nice to have photos, but not the same ones dozens or hundreds of times, when it has no contributing factor to the topic at hand.

I also do not see the need for another newsgroup. Like Jerry, I think JP has hit the nail on the head. I was very leary of the forum in the beginning, not sure about a moderated situation, but I have seen little problem with that. And as far as pictures and people's sign off "boiler plates", I don't see t hat as a problem either. Each time I go onto the computer to check stuff out, I come here (usually first since it is first on my list, then the Forum. As has been said it doesn't take long usually to get through the stuff here, since number are down. I just ignore stuff that I think I should and go on.

That is a good point. You also can't build a Stude from a chair, or go to a show, etc. (Somehow it sounds funky saying that you hang out at six bars, though.. )... Jeff

There is an easy way to deal with crap like this nut if you read the NG in Outlook Express.

1. Click 'block sender' on the menu
2. when the window pops up asking if you want to remove all his messages click 'Yes' all the crap will be deleted leaving the worthwhile messages and any future messages from him will be deleted before they even appear.
