The tabs hold the cardboard part of the windlace in position. HOWEVER.......... when I restored my Hawk, I found Pre-cut Heavy sandwich hardboard pieces inserted into the holes/indents between those tabs. I went out and purchased two 16x20 photographers mounting board and made new inserts. In some holes/indents it took three layers, others two. Once they were glued in place and died/cured, I used a staple gun to mount the windlace to these fillers, and yes, I did use the tabs also. Some folks can get the windlace to hold with just the tabs, bu since I found what I thought was original Studebaker fillers for the holes I made my own. I used a contact cement as it was the easiest method.

I am ready to install windlace on my 57 Champion. I was thinking about using double sided, sticky foam padding to attach the lace between the moulding and headliner. What do you guys think? It would be easier to put in and take out. I can;t figure out how to use the hook, clasp thingies that came on the original. Flathead.
