2005 Impreza WRX Sedan - What to look for at 60,000 mile service

Hi

I'm approaching 57K miles on my WRX. I hit all of the service points up to now without many big issues - just the usual stuff (brakes, tires etc). The biggest issue was a problem with the cruise control - it was engaging the throttle when idle in traffic and this burnt the clutch to a higher degree around 42K. This was intermittent and finally came to a head sitting in traffic in central Philadelphia. I have to lift my foot a fair bit higher than before on the clutch for it to engage...

Anyway back to the service. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for regards this make/model of car? I think I should be getting a new clutch, but is this something that will be checked for this service? I helped a friend with a new clutch/transmission in his racing Miata a few years ago and that was a fairly big job.

Thanks, Brian

Hmmm... has anyone moved your seat position? I think a hydaraulic clutch is not gonna have 'slack' develop like a cable. Or maybe something elses is wrong?

Typical clutch failure would be an increase in engine RPM in 5th gear without a significant increase in speed.

Doing the manufacturer's maintenance schedule (dealers sometimes 'pad' their business by harrassing you for an accelerated schedule) should be OK unless the car is used in some extreme way. Offroad, or very short drives or track use, etc. One overlooked area I feel is brake fluid. It can absorb a LOT of moisture and some folks who drive on the highway quite a bit may not be flushing that system out quite as often as would be 'ideal'. For most folks though - it's gonna be fine. Also, a coolant flush might be a good idea - just make certain it's done by a Soob experienced mechanic, and even so, monitor the engine temp for the first few drive cycles and return to shop if ANYTHING unusual is noticed. Opening and refilling Soob coolant systems can lead to problems if done without care. Perhaps also have the CV joint boots inspected for splits.

that's all I have to offer

Doesn't say in the Owner's Manual, I guess...?
