95 Subaru Legacy AWD does not work only the fwd

Feb 06, 2008 4 Replies

hello i have a 1995 Subaru Legacy LS sedan AWD ABS i when i go up on an icy small hill only the front wheels spin and the rear dont do anything except spin along, what could the problem be, i also noticed an AT OIL TEMP light blinking after the car is started it blinks 16 times. any clue or ideas why the rear wheels dont work.

also when i put in the fuse for the FWD it does not do anything and the light on the dash does not come on.

Please Help Anyone With Info On This! Thank YOU.

That "blink" is a fault indicator. Some will tell you that 95's have OBD-2, but I have learned not all do... My guess is your's dones not. Long blinks are "tens", short blinks are "ones", add them up and you will know what the fault number is

The 95 LS and LSi models came OBD-II. Really not a factor here anyways since the problem is with the transmission. The 16 blinks means there is something wrong with the transmission, nothing more. There is a procedure that can be performed that will show the transmission trouble codes and this procedure will generate the long/ short flashes. Wish I could describe the procedure but can't. Requires turning the key, pressing on the brake pedal, shifting through gears kicking your heels ...on and on. Eventually you will probably discover the Duty C solenoid needs replaced.

No. THe old code system is decimaml 00-99. Longs indicate 10-90 and shorts indicate 01-09 (e.g: long, long, short = 21). Cheers
