96 Outback won't start

Greetings- I'm a frequent lurker, first time poster, so please bear with me. I have a '96 Legacy Outback 2.2L that won't start. I've read posts regarding the crank/cam sensors and suspected that at first. I have spark at the plugs and no codes from my Actron OBDII reader leading me to suspect fuel pump/relay/etc. My question is... If the car won't start, will I get a DTC for any faults. I'm assuming since I do have a spark, my problem is not ignition/electrical. Any insight would be great...!

Thanks in advance

You may get a code but not necessarily.

Have you tried pinching the fuel line and then turning the ignition switch on? Do you feel the hose getting stiffer? This will help determine if you have fuel pressure.

Do you smell gas? The engine could be flooded, flooring the gas pedal while cranking the engine cuts the fuel supply and helps start the engine.

Good luck

AS- Thanks for the reply. It turns out the fuel pump went out on me. Your suggestion for testing fuel pressure (among others gleaned from this NSG) helped me diagnose the culprit.

Thanks Aga> You may get a code but not necessarily.
