97 subaru - cig-lighter - power port "died"

Apr 30, 2004 9 Replies

the power port up front on the dash died. We plugged something in & it acted like the fuse blew.. later we checked the fuse for the cig lighter and it was good --- then we checked ALL the fuses -- all good

We took a volt meter to the port -- and it has no volts.

is there another "inline" fuse somewhere or another fuse box hidden?

thanks

Are your electric mirrors working?

Good question and I had the same problem in my 91 Legacy till about 10 minutes ago there is a fusable link and its on the lighter housing!! remove the unit by detaching the block connector and spade terminal then unscrew the collar at the back of the unit at this point the outer part of the housing will pull free remove the centre part of the unit and look at the rear face. You will see the link which appears like a thin insulated wire crimped at either end check for continuity between the ends and you have an answer - I replaced mine with 15amp fuse wire so now I can plug in my phone or portafridge Derek

Same Setup for my 2000 Impreza, I plugged a small air compressor and it burned the fusable link in the housing of the power outlet.

I was recieving current by the wires but it wasn't transmilling to the outlet properly. Re-soldered it and it has been working for the past two years.

Then I bet that's what's up with mine. Thanks.
