So when I start my Impreza, I turn the key, it makes the normal starting noise then really briefly (2-3 secs) makes a nasty scraping grinding sound. It does it most times, but not every time. Does anybody have any ideas?

Sounds like starter to me. Are you still cranking when you hear the noise?
