Does anyone know where the coolant temperature sensor is located on a '98 Forester L?
Probably at the same place it is on my 96 Legacy, just under the right rear (passenger side) intake manifold. From the PCV valve, look down and towards the front of the car. It screws horizontaly and not verticaly It's in a rather tight location: you will have to remove the PCV valve hose and push aside sone other smaller hoses and electrical wires to get to it. I remplaced mine. Took a ratchet extension with a swivel joint. Good luck!
Thanks for telling the replacement technique. The CE light turns on intermittently and the OBD code of my Legacy 95 says that this sensor is out of range. I knew it was in that area, as it is unobstructed in my Legacy 90. But on the 95 it is all cluttered. I have the new sensor sitting atop of my worktable since a month. I'll print that message.
