Forester Wind/Road Noise

I have a 2001 Forester with 58K miles on it. Overall, I like the vehicle, but I find the amount of wind/road noise at highway speeds annoying.

It seems that the wind noise comes from the windows not sealing properly, since there's no frame around the windows. Is a high level of wind/road noise typical for the Forester? Is there anyway to overcome this noisy ride?

Is this something that either the dealer or an indpendent body shop/mechanic could address? Any specific ideas on how to proceed in reducing the noise would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

I agree with you that much of the road noise came from the original tires. Replacement with Yokohama Avid Touring's have helped a lot in that department.

However, I still experience lots of wind noise at highway speeds. Exactly how can I get that adjusted so it fits the rubber sealing trim better? Is that something that the dealer typically handles, or am I better off going to an independent body shop? Any idea how typical a request like this is for a dealer to handle?

I'll check the driver's side mirror, as well. But I suspect that there's no problem there.

Thanks again!

Once you get it adjusted, be sure to close the door by pushing on the door itself, not the window. Pushing on the window causes adjustment problems.

I heat insulated the roof in my Impreza using King Freeze tape (or something like that, forget the name, its cheap and sold at Home Depot) and to my surprise found the insulation to make the car also quieter especially at highway speeds.

There is a lot of wind/drag hitting the roof and your ears are right next to it.

If you live in a warm climate I recommend this, you'll get the benefit of both cool and quiet, or at least quieter.
