mpg

I'm thinking about getting a new '03 WRX or an STi and was wondering what the fuel economy is like for them both. I know the Subaru figures are 25.4 combined for the STi and 30.7 for the WRX what i want to know is if these are accurate or optomistic...??

Thanks.

Very optomistic, my WRX has gotten a best of 27mpg driving 55mph on the freeway (I was following a workmate in a crane we were delivering) but most tanks are in the 23mpg range for mountain driving. this is over almost

30,000 miles.

It really depends on your Driving Style: I have a '02 WRX Wagon. Freeway mileage varies from 22 to 27.

22 or less if you are downshifting to pass, 27 if at constant speed (note this works at 55 or 85 mph). Lots of experience back and forth on I-5 (CA) from Sacto to Bako or LA. Around town you get 22 if your easy, much less if your not (15 or less). 22k miles on my WRX.

I have an 03 WRX 5-speed wagon with 17k miles on it. The best I've ever seen for a tank of gas is 27 mpg, mostly 70-80 mph cruise. The worst was 17, which was summertime, a/c on, city driving, heavy foot.

30 mpg from a WRX sedan or wagon is not a realistic expectation. I consider this to be very good for a car with this level of performance.

These figures are generally optimistic for all cars. Use them for comparison between vehicles prior to purchase, but don't expect to achieve them in use.

Rexs generally give low 20s around town and mid to high 20s on a decent run. Of course, you can bring those figures down very dramatically with the right boot .

The fuel consumption improves with age - these cars are very tight when new - and is greatly helped by running the highest octane fuel you can get your hands on.....once the ecu has had a while to adjust.

Low to high 20s according to thrill factor required/ type of journey. Best results (for me) obtained using Optimax only. It does what it says in the advertising. Quoted MPGs are baloney.

02 WRX.
