Need advice - speedometer doesn't work

Anyone have any experience with a speedometer, odometer and trip meter not working on a Subaru Legacy (1990). Gas guage also doesn't work, but this has been a problem for a long time. The speedometer and mileage meters are new problems. I thought maybe a fuse was blown since all three are on the same location, but all fuses checked OK. The only recent change was a battery getting replaced. I thought maybe they shorted something since the problem started around the same time (I can't pinpoint the time as it's my daughters car, and she didn't notice it right away... so much for paying attention to those important things like how fast you're going.)

Could the guage cluster need to be replaced?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

perhaps a bad ground to some part of the instrument cluster? Or bad ground from batt cable to chassis?

If it's a digital gage, the solder joints can go bad - especially where the harness connector terminals are soldered to the p.c. board. This was a common problem on the 80's decade Soobs with digital gages. Removing old solder (using a solder sucker or wicking braid) and replacing with fresh will cure problem if that's the case.
